Nintendo Raises Original Switch Console Prices

Nintendo Raises Original Switch Console Prices

Nintendo announced on Friday that it is increasing the prices of its original Nintendo Switch game consoles.

The price increases, which will be implemented on August 3, result from “market conditions,” according to Nintendo.

The company’s reference to “market conditions” presumably references President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The Nintendo Switch: OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and certain Nintendo Switch accessories are among the products that are impacted.

Other Nintendo products, such as the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, select amiibo, and particular Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, will also experience price increases.

The revised prices are not yet known. The OLED model is priced at $349.99, while the original Nintendo Switch is currently available for purchase at a retail price of $299.99.

Nintendo has not ruled out the possibility of a future price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is currently priced at $450.

According to Nintendo’s announcement post, the pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 titles, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships will remain unaltered now. “However, it is important to consider that future price adjustments may be required.”

Nintendo reported its fiscal first-quarter earnings earlier on Friday and disclosed that the Switch 2 console has sold 5.82 million units since its release on June 5.

To circumvent tariffs, Nintendo previously moved most of its production from China to Vietnam. Nevertheless, this week, Trump announced modifications to reciprocal tariffs encompassing Vietnam.
