OpenAI names Aaron Chatterji as chief economist, previously serving under Presidents Biden and Obama
Since Chatterji is also a professor of business and public policy at Duke, he will be in charge of research at OpenAI that looks at how AI might affect job chances and economic growth.
Notably, Chatterji helped ensure the Biden administration passed the 2022 CHIPS Act. This law gave the U.S. government about $280 billion to fund the development of computer chips. The fact that he knows a lot about the project and has government ties could help OpenAI with its chip design work.
Chatterji wasn’t the only famous person that OpenAI hired today. The company also named Scott Schools as its new top compliance officer. Schools was previously an associate deputy attorney general and Uber’s compliance head. The company said he would work with the board and teams to ensure he follows the law and acts ethically.
