OpenAI has introduced a new, more affordable ChatGPT paid subscription plan in India, ChatGPT GO, which is priced at ₹399 per month ($4.60).
This Plan is more cost-effective than the ₹1,999 (approximately $23) per month Plus Plan.
The organization implemented local currency pricing for its plans a few days ago. This launch will also enable users to make payments through the Unified Payment Interface (UPI), India’s payment framework.
Nick Turley, the VP of OpenAI and the head of ChatGPT, stated that this Plan will result in a tenfold increase in the number of file uploads, image generation, and messages compared to the free tier.
According to Turely, the ChatGPT Go plan will also facilitate enhanced memory retention, resulting in more personalized responses.
“Users have consistently requested that ChatGPT be more affordable.” “We are initially introducing Go in India and will gather feedback before expanding to other countries,” Turley stated.
When offered in local currency, the Plus plan was more expensive than $20 for Indian consumers from a currency conversion perspective. The new Go plan provides a more cost-effective option for individuals who intend to utilize ChatGPT primarily for file processing, image generation, and conversation.
Tibor Blaho, a software engineer with a history of accurately leaking information about forthcoming AI products, had previously hinted at this Plan and its specifics.
The company is currently geo-restricting this Plan to India; however, it has stated on its support page that it is expanding to additional regions.
Turley reported last month that ChatGPT has exceeded 700 million weekly users worldwide, a significant increase from the 500 million users it had in March.
In March, OpenAI introduced its updated image generator feature for ChatGPT, which has since experienced an increase in usage in India.
In a recent podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that India is the company’s second-largest market. It intends to capitalize on this with the Go plan.

India has been the most prolific country in terms of ChatGPT app downloads across platforms, with over 29 million downloads from the country in the past 90 days, according to AppFigures.
Nevertheless, the program generated a mere $3.6 million in revenue from users within the country during this time.
This action will likely encourage more consumers to subscribe to ChatGPT, as its pricing is competitive. Other AI companies have also implemented strategies to attract consumers from the nation’s internet user base, which exceeds 850 million.
Perplexity collaborated with Airtel, a network provider, to provide complimentary Perplexity Pro subscriptions last month. Additionally, Google provided a complimentary AI Pro plan to students residing in India for one year.
Although OpenAI is not offering any incentives, ChatGPT’s subscription conversion rate in India is expected to improve due to its local and affordable pricing.
