According to a web page published on Tuesday, OpenAI is investigating methods for users to log in to third-party applications using their ChatGPT account
OpenAI is assessing the level of interest among developers who may wish to incorporate this service into their applications.
With approximately 600 million monthly active users, ChatGPT is rapidly becoming one of the most significant consumer applications in the world.
OpenAI is enthusiastic about expanding into additional consumer sectors, including personal devices, social media, and online purchasing, to capitalize on its current level of popularity.
OpenAI could potentially compete with other major consumer technology companies, such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft, that provide various online services, including a quick way to sign in to third-party applications, by implementing a potential “Sign in with ChatGPT” feature.
Earlier this month, OpenAI introduced a preview of the “Sign in with ChatGPT” experience for developers in Codex CLI, the company’s open-source AI coding tool for terminals.
The feature enabled developers to connect their API and ChatGPT Free, Plus, or Pro accounts. OpenAI provided $5 in API credits to Plus users to sign in with ChatGPT and $50 in API credits to Pro users.
OpenAI is interested in integrating sign-in services with various companies. Companies of all sizes, from fewer than 1,000 weekly users to over 100 million weekly users, are requested to provide information regarding their app’s user base in the developer interest form.
The form also inquires whether developers are patrons of the OpenAI API and how they charge for AI features.
In 2023, CEO Sam Altman indicated that the organization may investigate the implementation of a “sign in with OpenAI” feature in 2024.

Nevertheless, OpenAI is taking capability development quite seriously, currently in 2025. It is uncertain when the sign-in feature will be available to ChatGPT users and the number of companies that have registered to participate.
