Phantom Wallet Issues Emergency Patch After Update Outages

The Phantom wallet provider fixed the faulty update, but this may not help users who lost seed phrases and already installed the earlier patch.

Following complaints that some users had their apps reset, preventing them from accessing their wallets unless they could recall their recovery phase, cryptocurrency wallet service Phantom has released an urgent update for iOS customers.

On November 14, Phantom posted on X, “We’re aware that a small number of iOS users are experiencing app resets,” before recommending that those impacted utilize recovery phrases to restore their wallets.

To stop this from impacting more customers, the developers of the DeFi wallet, which is based in Solana, also announced that they have released a fresh iOS app version.

“We’re committed to making sure this won’t happen again,” they said, apologizing for the inconvenience and offering advice on safely storing seed words.

Users responded to the notification on X in several ways, including that after downloading a recent Phantom update, they had lost money, been automatically locked out, or had their balances erased.

One user said, “I lost my 983, please send it back.” “I lost my wallet containing $600K, which is my entire life’s savings. When will I receive my reimbursements?” Someone else asserted.

“Any reason why my app reset itself and removed all my Phantom wallets overnight?” another user questioned Phantom.

The 42,000 X followers of cryptocurrency trader “Ace” were cautioned against updating their Phantom wallets before saving their seed phrases.

“On iOS, it wipes your wallet; I’m not sure why they set such a terrible update,” they continued.

Another user commented, “With the latest update, people’s Phantom wallets are been deleted , and many tokens will be burned from people who forgot to backup their keys.”

The company is unable to provide users who have forgotten their seed phrases with much help because it is a non-custodial wallet and does not keep or have access to them.

For more help, it suggested getting in touch with the support staff.

The Solana wallet has experienced issues previously. The wallet went down in October, causing some users to view erroneous account balances.

“We’re currently experiencing an uptime incident, and some services may be temporarily disrupted,” Phantom said at the time, before fixing the issue a few hours later.
