Poland Surpasses El Salvador in Bitcoin ATM Count

Poland surpasses El Salvador as the fifth-largest Bitcoin ATM hub with 219 machines, following a 4-month installation spree, boosting global crypto access.

After the US, Canada, Australia, and Spain, Poland now has the fifth-largest cryptocurrency ATM network in the world, surpassing El Salvador with 10 additional machines on January 27. The country now has 219 operating Bitcoin ATMs.

In October 2024, Poland started a four-month installation campaign that added 24 cryptocurrency ATMs. According to Bitcoin ATM radar data, local active crypto ATMs increase monthly in several countries, including current leaders Canada, Spain, and Australia.

El Salvador has a strong lead yet lags.

El Salvador was the third-largest cryptocurrency ATM hub in October 2022 after adding 215 machines to encourage Bitcoin acceptance, despite the US and Canada controlling most of the worldwide Bitcoin BTC$98,975 ATM network with thousands of operational machines.

In contrast to other major economies, the nation has not expanded its capacity. To learn more about the country’s strategy for promoting wider Bitcoin acceptance, Cointelegraph contacted a Salvadoran official.

On the other hand, Poland has already built 12 new ATMs in January alone, and more are anticipated before the month is over.

Crypto ATMs serve the unbanked and give citizens grassroots exposure, even if they have little direct influence on local Bitcoin acceptance. Although regulators have voiced worries regarding the possible abuse of cryptocurrency ATMs for money laundering and financing terrorism, the devices continue to be an essential component of the infrastructure for Bitcoin accessibility.

About 38,100 cryptocurrency ATMs operate worldwide, dispersed throughout 65 countries and supported by 356 operators.

For almost three years, Australia has had the most steady increase in cryptocurrency ATMs. In April 2024, the nation joined the US and Canada as 1,000+ Bitcoin ATM club members.
