“If you receive a direct message that resembles this, it is a fake.” Schwartz wrote, “The link redirects to a phishing site that will collect your personal information and login credentials.”

David Schwartz shared a post from a Georgian user who goes by the pseudonym “three-year letterman.” The post contained a screenshot of a direct message.

The message stated, “Your account is currently being investigated for copyright violations.” It also included a hyperlink to a form X users requested to complete within 24 hours. It was further stated that failure to comply would result in the account being suspended.

Schwartz shared the message to raise awareness of the fraud, even though it did not mention any crypto tokens.

Using artificial intelligence software, specific fraudsters have also cloned Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple. In one such deepfake video, Garlinghouse encouraged cryptocurrency users to bring their holdings in exchange for a doubling. Subsequently, he verified that the video was fraudulent.
