Robot Dog Navigates Underwater

The Honey Badger robot from MAB Robotics showed off its newest trick on Tuesday

The four-legged animal can be seen running along the bottom of a pool in a film. Legs aren’t usually better for an underwater robot to move than blades or other more common options. However, the video shows strength and flexibility that isn’t often seen in such complex systems.

The Polish company suggests that a land-based robot that doesn’t mind getting wet could be used in search and rescue.

In a LinkedIn post, MAB cofounder and CEO Jakub Bartoszek says, “Developing locomotion systems that can handle the challenges of underwater terrain is an interesting journey, and I’m excited about the possible impact this work could have on inspection and maintenance services in flooded areas.”

Robots that can work independently have been helpful for search and rescue, keeping people from going into dangerous areas after natural or man-made catastrophes.
