On Thursday during an artificial intelligence meeting on the technology’s many uses, robot teams jostled on a miniature artificial soccer pitch as androids answered trivia questions and mocked human illiteracy
AI for Good Global Summit organizers stated that the proceedings in Geneva exemplified how technology could improve lives.
At the event, Tomas Lamanauskas, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), remarked, “At times, we regard AI as a mere phenomenon.”
“Concurrently, AI can be integrated into countless aspects of daily life, Whether for health, agriculture, early-warning systems, flood forecasting, or disaster management.
“The situation is identical across the board.”
Exhibits featured prosthetic limbs capable of adapting to muscle activity and learning the user’s behavior, devices designed to assist the visually impaired in navigating obstacles on the street, and bionic companion animals such as cats and canines.
The robotic football players were the brainchild of a cohort of ETH Zurich University students.
With the assistance of sensor data, the group tracked the ball as it was kicked and passed.
The scientific advisor of the project, Jan-Nico Zaech, stated, “Our undergraduate and graduate students gain practical experience on a complete robotic platform through this endeavor.”
“It’s a platform to test algorithms that can run in the real world afterward.”
