SEC Reassigns Former Crypto Enforcement Deputy Amid Policy Shift

SEC Reassigns Former Crypto Enforcement Deputy Amid Policy Shift

The SEC has reassigned former crypto enforcement deputy Jorge Tenreiro to its computer systems management department as part of a policy shift under new leadership.

The SEC has moved Jorge Tenreiro, who used to be the deputy chief of its crypto assets and cyber unit, to the computer systems management department, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Tenreiro, who worked at the SEC for more than 11 years and was important in cases against Ripple and Coinbase, was reassigned after news that the agency was reducing its crypto prosecution team. The change happens as the SEC becomes less strict on crypto during President Trump’s time in office.

After Gary Gensler left, Trump appointed Mark Uyeda as the acting chair of the SEC. Uyeda quickly started a crypto task group led by Hester Peirce to make asset classifications clearer and simplify regulations. On January 23, the SEC canceled SAB 121, which made crypto managers show client funds as debts.
