Tatsumeeko, a blockchain game backed by top crypto investors, ends development despite raising $7.5M in 2022 seed funding.
The sudden announcement caused the Tatsumeeko’s fan community to become enraged, and some long-term investors even suspected a rug pull. The studio is not entirely closed; developers have already initiated the development of another game.
The development of the web3 game Tatsumeeko has ended
Tatsumeeko’s blockchain-based community gaming concept garnered significant attention during its initial development phase. Early sponsors included Animoca, DeFinance Capital, Binance Labs (now an independent firm, YZi Labs), and prominent angel investors, such as the co-founder of Twitch.
Nevertheless, the Tatsumeeko project’s cancellation was verified by a single announcement today.
The team was unexpectedly evasive regarding the reason for terminating Tatsumeeko’s development. Instead, it primarily asserted that the subsequent undertaking would commence immediately. The community incorporation of this game will be concentrated on Discord, and the new game will be titled Project: Wander.
A few additional details are available; it is unclear whether Ronin, a blockchain GameFi protocol, will continue enabling the subsequent game.
Initially, the announcement elicited a fairly hostile response from the community on social media. The team was even accused of conducting a rug pull scheme by numerous fan accounts. Nevertheless, Tatsumeeko’s developers were relatively responsive to supporters who felt aggrieved.
The establishment of overly ambitious objectives was a recurring issue in the development of Tatsumeeko. The community aspect was consistently centered around Discord, but side initiatives also explored the potential of Telegram’s GameFi.
A stated reason for abandoning the main game was the parallel development on entirely unrelated platforms.
Additionally, numerous supporters expressed concern regarding the resources allocated to Tatsumeeko’s development. In addition to initial funding, supporters engaged in daily quests and other typical GameFi interactions with the expectation of receiving future rewards.
As per the announcement, these users would witness their “assets transition into new forms of utility and value” in the subsequent initiative.
Understandably, despite these assurances, the game’s supporters may continue to harbor reservations. Tatsumeeko’s activity progressively diminished, even though it initiated development with great enthusiasm in 2022. The firm’s most recent social media post was nearly two months ago, before today’s cancellation announcement.
Nevertheless, the studio is not entirely extinct. If this subsequent game achieves greater success, existing investors may anticipate it. For the time being, tensions are elevated.
