A telecom company involved in the Biden deepfake scam is required to pay $1 million to the FCC
Fake audio of President Biden, AI-powered, was transmitted to electors in New Hampshire at the beginning of the year.
The FCC responded promptly by identifying the perpetrator as the Texas-based Life Corporation, responsible for similar scams in the past.
The FCC subsequently imposed a $6 million sanction on the organization and an associated individual.
However, the fraudsters also employed a telecom game that had previously been questionable activities, a game that changed its shape.
Lingo Telecom, presently known as Ameritel, Excel, Impact, Startec, Trinsic, and others, will now be required to pay a $1 million civil penalty and strictly adhere to the rules from this point forward.
Providing services to known bad operators by telecoms such as Lingo is not intended to facilitate schemes.
“FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel stated that communications service providers are the initial line of defence against these threats and will be held accountable.”
