Telegram Adds New Ways for Creators to Earn Money

Telegram published an announcement on Wednesday that it will be introducing new revenue streams for creators on its platform

The platform is most notable for introducing monthly paid subscriptions, which users can purchase using the app’s digital currency, Stars, to access additional content from a creator.

By generating invite links, content creators can invite users to join a channel in exchange for a monthly payment in Stars. The concept of the feature enables creators to charge for additional or early access to content in a manner comparable to Patreon.

Creators can establish the price of their content and can convert Stars into Toncoin cryptocurrency rewards or subsidized advertisements. Telegram obtains a commission from transactions that involve Stars; however, the company has not disclosed the amount.

Additionally, Telegram is introducing Star Reactions, which will enable users to support their preferred content creators directly. Star Reactions is comparable to the “Super Thanks” feature on YouTube and the “Tips” feature on X. Creators receive 100% of the Stars they receive through the Reactions feature.

The new features are an extension of Telegram’s ongoing initiatives to assist creators in generating revenue through its platform. The company began allowing creators to share paid content on their channels last month, and Telegram introduced ad revenue sharing with creators a few months ago.

Telegram, which achieved 950 million active users last month, intends to surpass the 1 billion mark this year. This announcement was made today. Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, stated earlier this year that the company anticipates reaching profitability next year and is contemplating an IPO.
