Tesla Recalls Over 9,000 Model X SUVs, NHTSA Reports

Tesla recalls 9,136 Model X vehicles for a roof trim issue that could increase crash risk, with free repairs for owners

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Tesla is recalling 9,136 Model X sports utility vehicles as a result of a roof trim issue that has the potential to separate and elevate the risk of a collision.

This recall is uncommon for Tesla, as the company typically resolves issues through over-the-air software updates. Compared to Ford Motor’s 3.6 million recalls in the United States this year, the recall is a component of Tesla’s nearly 2.6 million vehicle recalls, as reported by recall management platform Bizzycar.

The roof trim parts may separate if they are not properly adhered with primer, resulting in a road hazard, as explained in the NHTSA’s letter dated Aug. 20. At no expense to the owners of the vehicle, Tesla will assess the adhesion and reattach the trim sections.

The recall underscores Tesla’s dedication to safety despite its preference for digital fixes.
