Tether CEO Warns of New Wave Crypto Airdrop Scam Emails
Tether CEO warned cryptocurrency users to exercise extreme caution to crypto-airdrop-related emails received in the past 24 hours, according to Tether’s CEO.
A prominent industry leader has warned about the possibility of a new wave of crypto airdrop fraud emails, which cryptocurrency users should approach with extreme caution.
According to Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, a prominent email list management provider that crypto firms extensively use, was purportedly compromised in a data breach.
In an X post on June 5, Arduino issued a warning to his 234,000 followers:
The CEO of Tether has not disclosed the company’s name that was breached; however, he has pledged to provide additional information upon the conclusion of the investigation.
“We received now 2 independent confirmations that a prominent vendor used by crypto companies to manage mailing lists might have been compromised.”
The co-founder of CoinGecko has verified the supply chain email breach.
A third company, CoinGecko, verified the attack minutes after Ardino’s initial warning.
Bobby Ong, the co-founder and COO of Coingecko, has stated that the incident has impacted a crypto email newsletter vendor that numerous companies utilize.
In a June 5 X post, Ong cautioned users that CoinGecko was at risk of being impacted.
“Not making names yet until investigation is completed, but please beware of any emails suggesting crypto-airdrops received since 24 hours ago.”
Ong cautioned users to refrain from clicking on any links that pertain to a fraudulent CoinGecko token, which is not currently in development, or any emails that advertise the release of new tokens.
