Threads tweaks its algorithm to focus on people you follow - The Verge

Threads is eventually making changes to the algorithmic feed to surface more content from the people you follow, following numerous complaints about the algorithm

In a Threads post, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri disclosed that the social network has modified its algorithm to display a reduced amount of content from accounts not followed by the user.

Mosseri stated, “We are rebalancing the ranking to prioritize content from the accounts you follow. This will result in fewer recommended posts from accounts you do not follow and more posts from those you do follow, kicking off today.”

He cautioned that the reach of creators who are not connected may decrease.

“For the creators out there, you should observe a decrease in unconnected reach and an increase in connected reach.”

Mosseri acknowledged that this is a work in process, as balancing the ability to reach followers and overall engagement is challenging. She expressed gratitude for the patience of her audience and encouraged them to continue providing feedback.

Earlier this week, the social network implemented the capability to generate personalized feeds on a global scale, thereby enabling users to exercise greater autonomy regarding the content they consume.

In addition to these custom feeds, Threads has a dedicated Following feed. However, the app defaults to the algorithmic For You feed, which Meta regulates.

Meta is implementing these modifications at a rapid pace, as a significant number of users are transitioning to Bluesky, which has surpassed 20 million users.
