The US Securities and Exchange Commission’s next chair has been selected by US President-elect Donald Trump to be Paul Atkins, a pro-crypto individual.

On January 20, the day that Donald Trump assumes the presidency, Gary Gensler, the current chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will resign. Atkins will succeed him.

Donald Trump’s nomination of Paul Atkins, a pro-crypto individual, for the position of US SEC chair was announced in a post on the Truth Social platform.

The incoming president of the United States remarked that Atkins has a history of serving as a proactive advocate for regulations that are based on common sense.

Trump also referenced the crypto industry, noting that Atkins acknowledges the importance of digital assets and other innovations in enhancing the nation’s prominence.

Following weeks of speculation, this development has transpired, during which Robinhood Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Dan Gallagher was suggested as a potential candidate to succeed Gensler. Nevertheless, Dan Gallagher indicated that he did not wish to pursue the position and withdrew from the race.

In the interim, Paul Atkins’ nomination will undoubtedly be applauded by individuals such as John Deaton, a pro-XRP lawyer who supported him for the position.
