Uber is recruiting gig workers to label data for its artificial intelligence models, helping to improve and train AI systems through crowd-sourced efforts
Uber is establishing a new category of gig laborers and expanding its fleet, which includes AI annotation and data labeling.
The ride-hailing company has recruited contractors for Scaled Solutions, a new AI and data categorization division.
According to Bloomberg, these employees are not only completing projects for Uber’s internal business divisions but also serving external customers, such as Aurora Innovation, a self-driving vehicle company, and Niantic, a video game developer.
Bloomberg reported that Uber has recruited contractors in various countries, including the United States, Canada, and India.
Uber’s entry into the data labeling market coincides with the market’s increasing popularity due to the proliferation of AI. Scale AI is an example of a company in the sector experiencing increased demand.
After only raising $600 million in its eight-year history, the company raised a $1 billion round at a $13.8 billion valuation earlier this year.
