Volkswagen is bringing its ChatGPT voice assistant experiment to the road. Or, more precisely, to the vehicles it distributes in the United States
At the CES 2024 event in January, the German automaker disclosed its intention to integrate an AI-powered chatbot into all Volkswagen models outfitted with its IDA voice assistant. However, the United States was not included in the initial launch.
The automaker is integrating its ChatGPT-integrated Plus Speech voice assistant, an AI chatbot based on Cerence’s Chat Pro product and a large language model from OpenAI, into new U.S. vehicles.
The 2025 Jetta and Jetta GLI models and 2024 ID.4 vehicles equipped with an 82-kWh battery will be the first to be rolled out on September 6. Most 2025 models will include Plus Speech with AI upon their introduction to the market.
Note: A subscription is necessary even though ID.4 and ID. Buzz comes with three years of complimentary access.
