Waymo and Uber launch early robotaxi access for select riders in Atlanta, marking the next phase in autonomous ride-hailing expansion
Waymo and Uber will commence providing robotaxi transportation in Atlanta to a limited number of customers who registered for a waitlist earlier this year. The decision is made in anticipation of the public robotaxi launch this summer.
Customers selected for early access will receive notifications via email and the Uber app. Individuals who elect to participate in robotaxi journeys will be encouraged to submit feedback during and after the experience.
Riders will receive $10 in Uber credits as an additional inducement following their initial Waymo ride.
Atlanta is the second city to receive the “Waymo on Uber” service. The service, which matches riders with a Waymo via the Uber app, was introduced in Austin this spring by the companies.
As part of an expanded partnership, Uber and Waymo announced in September last year that they would provide a robotaxi service in Austin and Atlanta in early 2025. Waymo’s autonomous Jaguar I-PACE vehicles are exclusively accessible to Uber users through the partnership.

Atlanta’s service area will expand over time, as it has in every other city where Waymo has launched, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco.
Waymo and Uber have agreed to initially provide robotaxi rides in a 65-square-mile Atlanta region, encompassing the downtown, Buckhead, and Capitol View neighborhoods.
The “Waymo on Uber” service divides the responsibilities of owning and operating a fleet of driverless vehicles: Uber is responsible for charging, maintaining, and cleaning autonomous cars, as well as managing access to the robotaxis through its app.
Conversely, Waymo is responsible for monitoring the technology and autonomous operations, including rider assistance.
