WhatsApp’s New Meta AI to Reportedly Reply, Edit Images

According to a WhatsApp update tracker, the Meta AI feature will utilize Llama 3 technology

A new feature is reportedly being added to WhatsApp for Android, enabling the in-built artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Meta AI to modify and respond to images.

According to the update tracker, the new feature is presently in development and will not be accessible to users who have registered for the application’s beta program.

According to reports, the organization’s most recent complex language model, Llama 3, will be the foundation for the forthcoming Meta AI feature. Users will be provided with privacy control options to safeguard their images.

It is rumored that WhatsApp will be implementing a new meta AI feature. According to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp update tracker, the new feature was observed in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.14.20.

Due to its ongoing development, the feature has yet to be included in the release. Nevertheless, the feature tracker illustrates the AI feature’s capabilities and functionality in screenshots.

It is evident from the screenshots that the new feature will be powered by Llama 3.

It is important to note that an earlier report indicated that users would shortly have access to Llama 3 and could alternate between the AI model and its predecessor. The feature may also be supported by Llama 2, which has computer vision.

There are two distinct characteristics. Initially, it was claimed that Meta AI could respond to images. At present, the AI chatbot can respond to text messages; however, it cannot perceive or analyze images.

According to the feature tracker, the new update will enable users to submit a photo and inquire about it with the AI. This is currently feasible on ChatGPT and Gemini AI. Llama 3’s open-sourced models can also accomplish this task; however, users will be required to execute the LLM locally.

The second feature is purported to enable Meta AI to modify the images. The extent of the AI model’s editing capabilities is unknown. It can potentially make rudimentary edits, including removing background objects, cropping, and improving the lighting.

Nevertheless, it may also provide sophisticated AI editing capabilities, such as modifying the background and creating additional effects, similar to the Magic Editor found in compatible Pixel smartphones.
