Worldcoin, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, nears mainnet launch with a blockchain preview for developers.

Since World Chain does not have a testnet, developers can install infrastructure on a “gated mainnet” using the World Chain developer preview.

The Worldcoin Foundation announced on July 9 the release of the World Chain developer preview, a platform that gives developers worldwide a chance to begin working on the World Chain before the mainnet launch.

Remco Bloemen, head of protocol at the Worldcoin Foundation, said that developers could set up infrastructure on a “gated mainnet” using the World Chain developer preview, as the World Chain is not utilizing a testnet.

World Chain developers have already tested the OP Stack.

According to Bloemen, the World Chain has already been put through its paces on the OP Stack. The Optimism Collective manages this open-source development platform and acts as a public resource for the ecosystems of Ethereum and Optimism.

Bloemen stated, “OP Stack has already undergone extensive testing, so we know it is effective.” He also mentioned that Worldcoin’s developer Tools for Humanity has an official webpage where interested developers can apply for developer preview access.

The Superchain and Optimism were first supported by the Worldcoin Foundation in July 2022, before the network’s launch. Worldcoin is now the most extensive application on the network, accounting for over 50% of all transactions on the OP mainnet in less than a year.

World Chain, a blockchain merged with Worldcoin’s identity protocol, World ID, is anticipated to be completely operational sometime in 2024 and intended to facilitate actual human transactions. The project plans to establish a global economy for as many people as possible, irrespective of nation or economic standing, by creating an ecosystem where people use the universal World ID as a worldwide digital passport.

July 2023 saw the official debut of the Worldcoin project, which had been under development for three years. The goal of Worldcoin, which stands for intelligent retrieval information system, is to provide people with the ability to distinguish between humans and artificial intelligence by using iris scanning.

Following the scan, Worldcoin provides a World ID, enabling users to authenticate themselves online.

After the mainnet debuts, 10 million users across 160 countries can access the World Chain.

“Tools for Humanity’s World App will be the first on-chain app that more than 10 million people in 160 countries can explore and use through compatible wallets when the World Chain mainnet launches,” stated Bloemen.

The World Chain mainnet is intended to facilitate numerous advantages, such as compatibility, interoperability, and inexpensive, scalable transactions.

Bloemen claimed, “It is trivial to migrate existing projects and develop new ones using all the existing tooling being an Ethereum Virtual Machine chain, layer 2 to Ethereum and Superchain member.” He continued by saying that the World Chain will also prioritize practical applications, offering a decentralized identification network and financial services for daily use.

The executive said, “This will be built around Worldcoin, stablecoins, payments, rewards, ramps, lending, swapping, and more, and uniquely enabled by World ID’s Sybil resistance.”

It is also anticipated that the World Chain would have a human prioritization mechanism. Bloemen said, “World Chain will be a permissionless network, meaning that anyone can submit transactions, but those created by verified humans will be prioritized for faster confirmation times.”
