YouTube Shorts Dream Screen Generates AI Backgrounds

YouTube announced on Thursday that its Dream Screen feature for Shorts now enables users to generate AI-generated video backgrounds

Previously, Dream Screen could only create image backgrounds. Google DeepMind’s AI video-generation model Veo, capable of producing 1080p video clips in a variety of cinematic styles, makes the new capability possible.

The feature now allows users to convert text prompts into AI video backgrounds. Enter the Shorts camera, tap the “green screen” icon, and then select “Dream Screen” to access the feature. It is possible to enter a prompt, such as “candy landscape” or “magical forest with a stream,” from that point. Subsequently, opt for an animation design and then “Create.”

The Dream Screen utility will generate a sequence of video backgrounds for you to select from. You can record a video with an AI video background behind you once you have chosen one.

YouTube claims that you can use the new feature to make an animated opening for your short film or to immerse yourself in the world of your favorite book.

YouTube intends to provide creators with the capacity to produce six-second-long, self-contained video segments for Shorts in the future via Dream Screen.

It is important to mention that YouTube is providing shorts creators with access to a feature that is not available on TikTok, the premier short-form video platform. TikTok presently does not permit the creation of video backgrounds, despite the fact that it allows creators to generate AI-powered background images.

The new feature is currently accessible in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
